Senior Network Engineer

Key Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and maintain high-availability ISP network infrastructure.

• Act as an escalation point for junior network engineers, resolving complex network issues.

• Mentor and provide guidance to junior staff, ensuring knowledge transfer and professional growth.

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues related to IP routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.

• Participate in network projects, migrations, and expansions, ensuring minimal disruption and high efficiency.

• Provide expert-level consultation, solution design, and implementation planning to internal teams and customers.

• Develop and enforce network security policies, including firewall configurations and DDoS mitigation strategies.

• Participate in after-hours support and maintenance as required.

• Occasionally perform onsite data center work as required to maintain and optimize network infrastructure.

• Maintain up-to-date network documentation, topology diagrams, and standard operating procedures.

• Work closely with service providers, vendors, and internal teams to optimize network performance and reliability.

• Provide solutions design expertise to ensure network infrastructure aligns with business needs.

• Research, evaluate, and report on emerging networking technologies, systems, processes, and industry standards.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• ISP/Telecommunications Experience: Proven experience working in an ISP or carrier-grade networking environment.

• Routing & Switching: Deep expertise in IP routing and switching, including MPLS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, Multicast, VLANs, Spanning Tree, BFD, VXLAN, eVPN, ISIS.

• Quality of Service (QoS): Hands-on experience configuring QoS on routers, switches, and firewalls.

• VPN & Security: Experience with IPSec VPNs, SSL VPNs, and firewall configurations.

• Network Troubleshooting: Strong ability to diagnose and resolve complex networking issues efficiently.

• Customer-Facing Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders, including sales teams, customers, and vendors.

• Experience with Major Networking Vendors: Hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Arista, Sophos, and other networking platforms.

• Access Technologies: Experience in troubleshooting and supporting NBN, Ethernet, 4G, Fibre Services.

Desirable Experience

• Experience with Broadband Network Gateways (BNG) for ISP subscriber management.

• Network Automation: Proficiency in automating network device configurations using Ansible, Terraform, Python, or similar tools.

• Experience automating network device backup and restore processes.

• Exposure to SD-WAN and cloud networking solutions.

• Working knowledge of virtualization technologies, including VMware, KVM, and cloud-based networking.

• Experience with IPv6 deployment and migration strategies.

• Understanding of DDoS mitigation techniques and network security best practices.

Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)

• Cisco: CCNP / CCIE (Enterprise, Service Provider, or Security)

• Juniper: JNCIP / JNCIE

• Fortinet: NSE4 or above

• Arista: ACE or similar
