AU Payroll Specialist

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop the well-being of ETG Payroll services by determining Payroll liabilities through the accurate calculation of employee salaries, taxes, superannuation, leave entitlements and workers compensation payments
  • Ensure all Payroll is processed in an accurate, compliant, and timely manner and manage/resolve issues relating to Payroll production
  • Prepare and distribute wages/salaries accurately and on time
  • Manage month end processes such as Payroll Tax, Third Party Payments, and Business Reporting
  • Prepare and pay month end payments for employee deductions ensuring compliance with legislative requirements
  • Administer superannuation processes and payments
  • Maintain all records accurately including pay records, associated time keeping data and statistics, leave records and related information through Kronos software
  • Manage monthly reconciliations for leave, payroll, salary sacrifice, payroll tax, group tax, WorkCover, superannuation and FBT, as well as all authorised payroll deductions
  • Manage Classification Changes, Remuneration Changes, Payment Frequency Changes, Allowances/Deductions, Taxation Changes and Superannuation changes
  • Ensure all payroll transactions are processed efficiently
  • Collect, calculate, and enter data in order to maintain and update payroll information and keep staff personal details up to date
  • Manage, and be the point of contact, for internal and external audits in line with this role
  • Prepare New Hire Contracts and Change of Status Letters, and monitor the accurate processing of onboarding staff appointments, transfers, promotions
  • Retain all records as required by state legislative requirements
  • Prepare Business Specific reporting and analytics such as Headcount/FTE, Turnover, Position Vacancies, Statutory (e.g., child support), employment confirmations workers compensation, costing, and demographics/diversity.
  • Prepare and manage the separation process of Resignations, Terminations/Dismissals, Redundancies, Contract Expiries, and Retirement
  • Manage staff leave including Paid Parental Leave Government/Company, Leave Without Pay, Annual Leave, Personal Leave, Special/Other Leave, Workers Compensation and Domestic Violence Leave
  • Prepare and manage Year End Processing including Reconciliation, STP Finalisation, Payroll Tax, Workcover, Business Reporting, Annual wage Code Review (Super/PRT), Taxation/Superannuation Updates, Reportable Fringe Benefits, Reportable Employer and Superannuation Contributions
  • Ensure you balance the General Ledger, and manage Oncosts and Accruals appropriately
  • Process, maintain and reconcile salary sacrifice items
  • Assist with the maintenance of salary data to ensure wages payments comply with awards, arbitrated decisions, and agreements
  • Maintain/archive files within statutory requirements
  • End of Year processing, reconciling, and reporting of Statutory requirements
  • Manage time and attendance including Ime Collections, Award Interpretation, Variation Reports, Validation Reports, Export to Payroll, and Quality Assurance
  • Accurately manage the Payroll process including import T/A Data, manage Hours Adjustments, Allowance/Deduction Adjustments
  • Prepare Payroll Detail/Summary Reports, and Payroll Reconciliation Reports
  • Prepare Banking and Costing Reports
  • Ensure Payroll is closed accurately and efficiently
  • Prepare and submit ATO STP Reporting
  • Manage Payroll, T&A, Award/Enterprise setup, and other systems, to ensure that all information and records are up to date and maintained in accordance with statutory requirements including Span of Hours, Shifts/Penalties, Overtime, Allowances, Leave and Public Holidays
  • Generate monthly reports on wages, taxes, deductions, leave and non-taxable wages
  • Review and improve payroll policies and procedures on an ongoing basis
  • Interpret new legislation impacting Payroll and advise the senior leadership team on appropriate action
  • Manage the set-up of new employee information and accounts and oversee the maintenance of employee data systems, including maintenance of Payroll records and files
  • Update and organise systems to manage new Payroll information as required by legislative changes
  • Prepare and review Payroll account reconciliations and maintain accurate account balances
  • Develop ad hoc financial and operational reporting as needed
  • Supervise and co-ordinate activities of Payroll employees to meet operational requirements, including performance management if necessary
  • Assisting other staff members, from Colleagues to Management, in an efficient, helpful, and courteous manner
  • Take ownership of issues and follow problems through to resolution

The role

To be successful in this position it is paramount that you know and understand our company values and always act in a professional manner, using language that aligns with that of the company. You will have demonstrated experience managing Payroll functions, ensuring Equity’s Payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. You will ideally have previous experience managing Payroll for a similar mid-sized organisation and using Sage MicrOpay and Kronos.


Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in AU Payroll
  • Understanding of payroll compliance
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Modern Awards and other state and industry legislation
  • Knowledge of general payroll practices, procedures, operations, and legislation
  • Advanced computer software skills, Word and Excel and other accounting/payroll packages
